Erin Noland

Erin Noland: While working on my certification with Lisette, I was offered a teaching position at Yoga Vista.  The owners obvioiusly thought highly of Lisette and her program and felt confident offering me the position before I had even graduated! I have been teaching Pre and PostNatal yoga since October.  I recently started teaching an active Hatha class.
Words cannot express what I gained from the Roots &
Wings Teacher Training Program. Lisettes enthusiasm,
knowledge and dedication to yoga came through in
everything that she taught.  The program deepened my
personal practice and brought me closer to the history of yoga.  To top it all off, I left making wonderful friends! I highly recommend the Roots & Wings program to anyone looking to become a teacher or to those interested in learning more about yoga.

Kathleen Gregory

Kathleen Gregory: Kathleen Gregory’s personal yoga practice is diverse and spans several years. It began as many do! Maintaining a career in finance, as a Corporate Trainer, she was very busy and exceptionally short on time so her first yoga experience was practicing yoga to a series of VHS tapes she watched at home over and over gleaning everything she could from them!  Encouraged by the results and wanting a richer experience she discovered the joys and benefits of an instructor led class with local yogini, Lisette Hart. She deepened her practice further two years ago when she brought her then 6 week-old daughter to Liza Janda's  infant Mommy and Me Yoga class.

Inspired by her close friend Erin, she applied for the Roots & Wings Yoga Teacher Training .  Her intention in completing the year-long, 200 hour certification was to deepen her personal practice and step into sharing yoga with others. Taking on the program was  a leap of faith in more than one way. Feeling nervous and unprepared  to study  yoga Teacher Training thinking she was too new to practicing yoga.  She soon observed that her peers all had their strengths and no longer feeling alone realized some were just as apprehensive about their own shortcomings.  The Roots & Wings program allowed all of them to embrace each other's abilities and shortcomings and grow together. How to come up with tuition was a big question.   Thankfully, Lisette and Kathleen negotiated a work study program to help her afford the tuition. And finally, she was facing a 6 month deployment in 2006 of her husband and in essence, becoming a single mother.  She soon was blessed with generosity of loving ,willing friends volunteered to care for her daughter while she attended classes and fulfilled certification requirements.   Her husband returned safe and sound  in time to see her graduate from Roots & Wings Yoga Teacher Training, a joyful (and, yes, even a little slimmer) person. She believes that the lessons learned in the school don't necessarily come out of  a book, the really important ones emanate from your core and warm your heart and the hearts of those around you.

Currently, she sees there is a profound shortage of Mommy and Me classes for her daughter and others at the toddler level.  Taking what she knows as a full-time mother and as a yoga teacher she has now combined them into a labor of love and offers her unique toddler Mommy and Me class! Kathleen has a fun-loving spirit and a special affinity for invigorating Ashtanga yoga classes. She values a good active Hatha class and also fosters a deep appreciation for restorative poses. Her toddler Mommy and Me class is on Tuesday mornings at Blue Raven Healing Center in San Marcos, California. Shelly Scott

Shelly Scott: As a busy Mother of two children the Roots and Wings program worked out so well having the sessions one weekend per month. The hands on assisting was invaluable! Having almost a full year to fully absorb all of the information was ideal for me. I entered the program unsure if I would feel confident enough to actually teach. With loving support from all of the trainees and especially from Lisette, I gained  courage and confidence and am now teaching and committed to my students and my own personal practice. The Roots and Wings hepled me to deepen my personal practice by learning more about the history and philosophy of yoga.

Lisette is an amazing teacher and friend. She has inspired so many people (including myself) with her sincere love of yoga and her loving dedication to her students. I treasure the time spent with her and the other teacher trainees... and it flew by!

Teaching has brought me so much joy. I love that I can share my love of yoga with others. After leaving a sales rep job of 15 years to stay home with my kids, I would never have imagined this is what I would be doing. But at age 41, I can proudly say my second career is a yoga teacher!

I am currently teaching an active Hatha class Tues at Yoga Vista 10:30 am and at for school teachers after school at two elementary schools.

Amy Bagshaw

Amy Bagshaw: After 10 years of practicing yoga, I decided to study with Lisette Hart in the Roots and Wings Yoga Teacher Training.  Having spent many summers with Lisette at our cottage retreat in Canada, I was very fortunate to spend a 5 week intensive in Vista practicing and beginning my certification.  Lisette’s openness as an instructor and flexibility with her schedule allowed me to immerse myself in study with her and then train from abroad in Canada.  While in California, I was able to spend some amazing afternoons with the 2006 graduates from the Roots and Wings program who also warmly shared their knowledge with me.  When I officially graduate from the program in August 2007, I will have spent the previous 6 months developing my teaching practice in connection with Lisette, who has given me a chance in a lifetime: to study yoga with a wonderful friend!  Since January, I began teaching yoga to in-home private students and at a Women’s Fitness and Day Spa in the Toronto area.  My own yogic practice has grown within and throughout as my body and spirit have opened with acceptance and awareness. Lisette’s Roots and Wings program has allowed a dream to be realized (the wings!) and inspired a deeper connection within myself (the roots).

Sue Apgar

Sue Apgar: I’ve been practicing yoga for over five years.  Yoga,
and the people it has brought me in contact with, has made
and still makes a huge, positive impact on my life.  Being a
key part of the everyday operations of my family’s commercial greenhouse has its challenges.  Yoga has helped me find a
calm, balanced place to deal with the stress of
self-employment combined with family dynamics, but it’s
more that just practicing asana.
Lisette has been a major influence in my continued interest
in yoga and drives my thirst for knowledge in the subject.
Although I don’t plan to teach regularly in the near future I
applied to the Roots & Wings program to learn more about
my own practice and start exploring more of the philosophy.
The subject is so vast I didn’t know where to start.  Now I
have several paths of interest to follow and a long list of
books to consider.  The anatomy and teaching let me look
at my body and my practice with new eyes.  It also has given
me a greater appreciation for other teachers who lead an
effective class.  Being able to offer stretches or simple poses
to ease an ache or pain when my parents or friends ask –
and have it help – is really gratifying.
Throughout my life I’ve been involved in many group and
individual activities, including earning a Black Belt in Karate.
Nothing has been as special as the Roots and Wings program.
The support and rapport (not to mention the laughter) of the
women I graduated with and the love and dedication of our
teacher is like nothing I’ve ever experienced.  I wouldn’t trade the time I spent in 2006 for anything!
